As
art director of dlp Studios, Robert de la Peña has
traveled numerous times to the Middle East observing firsthand the
customs and cultures of Bible Lands. Robert invests considerable
time studying and researching each artifact he recreates, reproducing
each one with the best possible patinas to represent its unusual
origins and every-day use. Each artifact recreated is highly representative
of a Bible principle or teaching, therefore, each one is carefully
considered before and during the replication process.
"Our 21st Century Western mind has a hard
time comprehending the culture and basic beliefs of the people in
Bible times," Robert says. The building process of the different
artifacts allows Robert to study in detail some of the habits of
the people of that time that have found their way into the pages
of the Bible. Through visual representation of these items so steeped
in tradition, Robert's goal is that the Word of God becomes clearer
to the viewer.
Robert has been in ministry for over 40 years,
traveling numerous times to the Middle East and observing firsthand
the customs and cultures of Bible Lands. In High School Robert began
creating props for plays and hasn't stopped since—including
designing extremely complex stage sets and staging special effects.
While preaching to several hundred kids as a children's pastor in
Los Angeles, California Robert transformed church time into an impressionable
theatrical experience that has stayed with many in that congregation
to this day.
